The delegation was a diverse group, comprising students from 11 countries, including Bhutan, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Myanmar, Laos, Nepal, Argentina, Kenya, Thailand, Uganda, and of course, India. He reflected upon the history of Nalanda and the ‘powerful brand’ it exemplified. He encouraged the students to take its legacy to greater heights, thereby underlining the importance of education in shaping the future of a nation and the world.
The Vice-President urged the students to be trustees of peace, progress, and sustainable development. This call to action is significant, considering the global challenges we face today. From climate change and environmental degradation to social inequality and conflict, the need for sustainable solutions is more pressing than ever. And who better to lead this change than the youth, who are the future leaders of our world?
The Vice-President also highlighted the “eternal contributions” of the Indian civilizational ethos. This reference to India’s rich cultural and philosophical heritage served as a reminder of the timeless values of peace, harmony, and sustainable living that have been part of the Indian ethos for centuries.
In conclusion, the interaction between the Vice-President and the students of Nalanda University was not just a meeting but a call to action for the youth. It emphasized their role as the new trustees of peace, progress, and sustainable development. As they carry forward the legacy of Nalanda University, they also carry the hopes and aspirations of a world yearning for sustainable and peaceful coexistence.
