In an effort to ignite the flames of scientific curiosity and innovation among school students, the CSIR-Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), located in Kolkata, orchestrated a remarkable event on August 25th, 2023, as part of their “One Week One Lab” campaign.

This event not only aimed to foster a passion for science but also to plant the seeds of future research aspirations within the minds of young learners.

Dr. S.K. Mishra, the esteemed Director of CSIR-CGCRI, warmly welcomed the participants, setting the tone for a day filled with scientific wonder. The Chief Guest for the occasion, Dr. K. J. Sreeram, Director of CSIR-Central Leather Research Institute, eloquently emphasized the invaluable role that CSIR plays in the nation’s development, underscoring the importance of scientific pursuits in nation-building endeavors. Adding to the inspiration, Dr. Arun Bandyopadhyay, Director of CSIR – Indian Institute of Chemical Biology, graced the event as the Guest of Honour, urging the students to embrace science as a means to serve the greater good of our nation.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from a total of 295 students and 28 teachers, representing seven prominent schools in the region. These educational institutions included Kendriya Vidyalaya, Dumdum, St. Xaviers Institution, Laxmipat Singhania School, Silver Point School, Mukul Bose Memorial School, Jadavpur High School, and The Summit School.

The school participants were treated to a spectrum of captivating scientific activities, designed to ignite their passion for the subject. These activities included enlightening popular lectures, interactive sessions that connected them directly with experts, intriguing product demonstrations showcasing the innovations of CSIR-CGCRI, challenging scientific quizzes, virtual lab experiences, and much more.

One of the highlights of the event was the opportunity for the students to engage with accomplished scientists, each specializing in diverse scientific domains. These scientists offered a glimpse into CGCRI’s cutting-edge technologies and shared their expertise, leaving the young minds brimming with inspiration and awe.
