Boosting Capacity at NEIAH Ayush Minister’s Initiatives Union Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, in a significant move aimed at bolstering healthcare infrastructure, has unveiled a series of initiatives to enhance capacity at the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH) located in Shillong. The overarching objective behind these initiatives is to promote the ethos of “Heal in India, healed by India,” emphasizing the pivotal role of traditional healing practices in fostering a healthier populace.

Projects Launched

  • Inauguration of the Guest House.
  • Foundation stones were laid for the Administrative Building, Pharmacy Building, and Boundary wall with Periphery Road.
  • Complete with external electrification including entry & exit gates.

Minister’s Address

  • Focus on collaboration and building strengths.
  • Importance of establishing scientific evidence for traditional medicine.
  • Nearly one thousand experts are trained in Ayurveda and Homoeopathy.
  • Strengthening the healthcare delivery system in the region, aligning with the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji.
  • Objective: Swastha Bharat (Healthy India).

Government’s Commitment

  • Commitment to building NEIAH’s capacity as a top Ayush human resource institution.
  • Investment of over ₹145 crores in the past year for capacity expansion.
  • Total project outlay: ₹217.02 crores.

Expansion of Services

  • Introduction of Peripheral OPD services at Smit, East Khasi Hills district.
  • Potential access for 40,000 people in 20 villages.
  • Commencement of Swarnabindu Prashan Sanskar for Ayurvedic Immunno Modulation in Children.
  • Target: Treating Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) among tribal females aged 18 to 45.
  • Program under the AYURSWASTHYA Yojana.

Medical Interventions

  • NEIAH provides interventions like Panchakarma, Ksharasutra, Uttarabasti, and Yoga.
  • Aim: Improve the quality of life for patients.
  • Specialized training programs including the Panchakarma Technician program.
  • Expectation: Wider availability and popularity of the Ayush system of medicine.

Virtual Presence

  • Union Minister of State for Ayush and Women & Child Development, Dr Munjapara Mahendra, joins the occasion virtually.
  • Presence of key officials including the Secretary of Ayush, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Vice Chancellor of Northeast Hill University (NEHU), Prof PS Shukla, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, BK Singh, and Director, NEIAH, Prof Neeta Maheskar.

With these initiatives and investments, NEIAH is poised to become a leading institution in promoting traditional medicine and enhancing healthcare services in the region, aligning with the national goal of ensuring a healthy and prosperous India.
